What to expect from counselling ?
Counselling can involve talking about difficult or painful feelings and as you begin to face them, you may feel worse in some ways. However, with the help and support of your counsellor, you should gradually start to feel better.
I am here to support you and respect your views
- I won’t tell you what to do !
- I will help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems
- I will listen without judging or criticising you
- I will help you to identify ways of finding your own solutions to problems
- I will help you reach a positive solution
Counselling can help you to explore your issues, deal with obstacles preventing you achieving your ambitions, deal with feelings or sadness, help you worry less, understand yourself and your problems better, feel more confident and develop a better understanding of other people’s points of view.
In most cases, it takes a number of sessions before the counselling starts to make a difference, and a regular commitment is required to make the best use of the therapy. If you aren’t sure what to say, just say whatever is on your mind and how you feel about it.
Counselling is a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings.
If you have difficulty, you shouldn’t wait until you are very sick to get help.
Do not suffer in silence!
